Art as the Passion

Morae Collections is the artistic expression of this collaboration.  While David's art is primarily behind the camera, Deanna's art includes graphic design, photo montage and other computer art.

Deanna

Deanna, origianally from northeastern Indiana, is a full time artist, musician, mother of two and wife who now calls Indianapolis home. She credits her strongest artist influence to a Beetle and Pink Floyd loving, out of the box thinker, wondering soul from her high school.

Her love for photography began to consume her in 1987 while attending Anderson University. This is where she started formal photography training. "I have always imagined transforming the photograph and how it is viewed" says Deanna. In 1992 she found that transformation. While studying at Herron School of Art, she began to print her photos on semi-transparent paper. Other than a few small installations, it would be amost ten years before that transformation found its way into the public's eye. The idea is to frame the picture with glass on the front and back allowing it to be viewed from both sides. With the photograph away from the wall, it is allowed to interact with its audiance. From one side light may shine on it, from another, the light may pass through it causing it to glow. Deanna's first large scale installation of OFF THE WALL ART was viewed at the Spring 2003 Allotropy Exhibit by Primary Colours.

Deanna works with both film and digital mediums, however all of her work is printed from a digital image. Her work includes landscape, models, architecture, and commercial images. "I find myself sculpting my subject to express feelings in an effort to evoke emotions and communicate with my viewer. I want to communicate intensity in a medium that does not often use words or sound."

Deanna was the featured cover artist for the 2005 Indianapolis Concours d'Elegance and the 2006 Art committee chairperson

Past shows include Allotropy (May 2003), Oranje (September 2003), Painted Fish Gallery (Dunedin, FL spring 2004), Concours D'Elegance (June 04), Penrod (2004). She has also had shows at Borders bookstores in Indiana and Ohio as well as Net Jets of Columbus, Ohio.

David

As a semi-professional photographer David's best solo work is with inanimate objects such as cars, nature scenes and architecture.  However, as a team with Deanna the work with models has become one of the favorites among fans.

David's photo work began in high school and followed into college where he did some work for the school paper.  "I sometimes miss the darkroom and the art one can create beyond the lens.  Now digital has changed the post production work.  It makes it so much easier to know if you have the shot you want.  What used to take a roll of film to get a good shot, now it's a matter of checking your work and doing it again if you want something different." -David

In addition to the photo work, David helps maintain the various websites, market, manage, and maintain Deanna's ideas and creations.  From time to time he writes short essays and blog entries.
